Lie Detectors is an independent, award-winning and journalist-driven media literacy organisation. As Europe’s largest organisation of this kind, its remit is to counter the corrosive effect of online disinformation and polarisation on democracy.
Working in schools and training teachers
Teachers see digital media literacy skills as fundamental to their students’ learning. Lie Detectors train classrooms of students as well as cohorts of teachers to consider information with a critical eye, regardless of subject area.
Their interactive, award-winning classroom workshops for children aged 10-15 unlock young people’s innate understanding and curiosity about the fast-changing online worlds they inhabit, sharpening their ability to evaluate and navigate wisely. The workshops provide a jumping-off point for teachers to deepen media literacy teaching with further resources and materials.
They aim to reach the broadest range of schools and offer our services to classrooms free of charge. In-person classroom visits are available in Austria, Belgium, Germany, Luxembourg, Poland and Switzerland in multiple languages. Online, their sessions are available internationally.
Training for teachers, teacher-trainers and school managers is hands-on, inclusive and run by journalists, offering discussion and follow-up resources.
All sessions are led by professional journalists whom Lie Detectors has individually selected and trained to ensure consistent quality, transparency, ethical standards and skill transfer.
They have trained 2,000 teachers internationally and worked with more than 135,000 children in 7,000 classrooms in Europe.
